Summer School - Travel Itinerary

How to get there?

These are the directions to the summer school. For the ECC workshop consult this page.

The summer school will take place in the Computer Science department which is situated only a few kilometers from the center of Leuven. The address is:

Celestijnenlaan 200A
B-3001 Heverlee

Check the maps section!

Coming from the centre of Leuven

  • Go to the cross-roads 'Naamse Poort' on the ring around Leuven.
  • Turn southwards (at the Total service station).
  • The road immediately splits in two, go right.
  • That is the 'Kardinaal Mercierlaan', follow this lane lined with chestnutt trees for about one kilometer until you reach the traffic lights.
  • Turn right at the traffic lights onto Celestijnenlaan. On Celestijnenlaan, turn left after passing the traffic lights, to end up in front of 200A.

By plane

In the Brussels Airport (Zaventem), take the train to Leuven (about 16 minutes), not Louvain-la-Neuve! You'll find trains for Leuven by searching for: Leuven or Landen. From Leuven station, proceed as mentioned above.

Another airport close to Leuven is the Brussels South Charleroi Airport. From Charleroi Airport you have to take a bus Brussels City Shuttle to Brussels-South train station. From there take the train to Leuven.

By train

Leuven is well situated in the Belgium train system. Hence, you have trains going to Leuven every half hour or every hour, depending from where you come. Notice that Belgium is a bilingual country, and depending on the part of the country you are in, names of places change. The French name of Leuven is Louvain. So in the French speaking part, you have to catch a train to Louvain (IMPORTANT: Do NOT take the train to Louvain-La-Neuve or Louvain-La-Neuve-Universite. This is another city!) instead of Leuven.

The German railway company provides a user-friendly search page in English, French, Italian, and German. The search page knows about Belgian train connections and is far more user-friendly than the Belgian railway site.

Both Luik/Liège/Lüttich and Brussels are reachable by ICE and Thalys. In either city, you can take an IC train directly to Leuven/Louvain.

Brussels has a direct Eurostar connection to London.

By taxi or bus from train station

At Leuven station, you can take a taxi (this will cost between 10 and 15 € and will take 5-10 minutes).

You can also take bus number 2 in the direction "Heverlee Campus". The final stop of the bus is right in front of Celestijnenlaan 200A.

By car coming from Brussels or Liege

  • Take the highway E40 (Brussels - Liege).
  • Take the exit E314 / Leuven (no. 15).
  • Keep to the right and follow the sign "Leuven" (leave the E314).
  • Turn right at the second traffic lights (direction Campus Arenberg, this is the Celestijnenlaan).
  • Drive on for about 250 m, and take second street on your right.
  • About 50 m further, turn left onto the public car parking in front of Celestijnenlaan 200A.

By car coming from Hasselt / Eindhoven / Aachen

  • Take the highway E314 (Aachen - Leuven).
  • Take the exit "Leuven" (no. 15). This is the last exit before the E40.
  • Turn right at the second traffic lights (direction Campus Arenberg, this is the Celestijnenlaan).
  • Drive on for about 250 m, and take second street on your right.
  • About 50 m further, turn left onto the public car parking in front of Celestijnenlaan 200A.
